FinLens
Made in India, for India.

How FinLens protects your data

Your financial data deserves the highest level of care. FinLens is designed with privacy and security in mind: it keeps as little as it can and locks what it keeps. Every control on this page is in place today.

  • AES-256 encryption
  • No bank passwords, no payments
  • Two-step sign-in
  • Available in India only

Encryption

Your financial data is protected using strong encryption in transit and at rest.

FinLens is built with the best and latest technology. What that sentence means here, control by control.

In transit

  • Every connection is encrypted, and browsers are told to use nothing else.
  • On top of that, the portal seals every request and reply with AES-256 under a key your browser and the server agree at sign-in: a copied address or cookie reads nothing, and proxies and saved traffic files see only ciphertext.
  • Our own calls to the services we use (Gmail, WhatsApp, the AI model) are encrypted too; nothing leaves in clear.

At rest

  • Everything we store (the database, the files, the cache) is encrypted at rest with AES-256; every file is kept encrypted, never as a plain file.
  • Uploaded files, the text read from them, identity numbers and the passwords of locked statements are encrypted again with AES-256 under a data key of your own account, wrapped by a master key that is a secret of the service.
  • Accounts and cards are saved with only the last 4 digits of their numbers; a statement you upload is kept as you sent it, encrypted.

Keys and secrets

  • The master keys that wrap each account's own key, the secret that signs sessions, the PIN's secret and the service's own access tokens are kept as secrets of the service: hidden once set, never in the code or the database.
  • The Personal Repository goes further: its key is made from your passphrase in your browser and never reaches us.
  • The PIN is hashed with a secret the database never holds; one-time codes are stored as hashes and expire after 5 minutes.

The controls, one by one

Each block names what is in place today. When a rule changes, this page changes with it.

Sign-in

  • A mobile number that was invited, a 6-digit PIN, and then a one-time code sent to your verified e-mail address or a one-tap confirmation on WhatsApp. The PIN and the codes are stored only as hashes; codes expire after 5 minutes.
  • Five wrong PINs or three wrong codes block sign-in for that account until the administrator lifts the block.
  • A sign-in lasts 5 days and is not extended by use. The session cookie is HttpOnly, Secure and SameSite=Strict, so other sites cannot use it.
  • Seeing a stored document or an identity number asks for your PIN again; exporting your data or erasing your account needs a new one-time code.

Data on the way

  • Every connection is encrypted, and browsers are told to use nothing else.
  • On top of that, the portal encrypts each request and reply itself with AES-256, under a key your browser and the server agree when you sign in. A copied session cookie is useless without the browser that signed in, and the network panel, proxies and saved traffic files show only ciphertext.

Data at rest

  • Everything we store (the database, the files, the cache) is encrypted with AES-256; every file is kept encrypted, never as a plain file.
  • Uploaded files, the text read from them, identity numbers and the passwords of your locked statements are encrypted again with AES-256 under a data key of your own account, which is itself wrapped by a master key kept as a secret of the service.
  • Accounts and cards are saved with only the last 4 digits of their numbers, never the full number; a statement you upload is kept as you sent it, encrypted. The body of an e-mail is never stored.
  • The database keeps its own 30-day point-in-time history, encrypted like the database.

The Personal Repository

  • Documents and notes you keep there are locked in your browser before they are sent: a key made from your passphrase unlocks a repository key, and every item has its own AES-256 key.
  • The server holds only the locked copies. It can see that an item exists, its size and when it was added, not what it is. If you forget the passphrase and lose your recovery code, nobody can open the files, including us.

What the page loads

  • A strict content security policy: the portal runs only its own scripts, and these public pages run none. Nothing is loaded from another site: no advertising, no analytics, no trackers, no fonts from elsewhere.
  • No advertising or profiling cookies: the cookies keep you signed in, keep your place while you ask for an invitation, or, on the public pages only, let the Trusted Origin badge remember that you have seen it.

AI, within limits

  • Mail text is never sent to an AI model, with one exception: when no rule opens a locked statement attached to a mail, the mail's one sentence about its password, masked, may be read to find the rule. A file the fixed rules cannot read is read once by an AI model with your name and identifying numbers replaced by placeholders, with the provider asked not to store the answer; a photo or a scan cannot be masked and is sent as it is.
  • Ask FinLens works out every figure itself; the model that reads your question never receives your mobile number, e-mail, account or card numbers, PAN or PRAN.

India only

  • FinLens is made in India, for India, and access to it is limited to India: a request from outside the country is refused before it reaches the sign-in, the app or your data. Three things answer from abroad: the address WhatsApp delivers your messages to, the pictures used in WhatsApp messages, and these public pages, for search engines' verified crawlers only. Access can also be limited to approved networks.

Records and your control

  • An audit log records sign-ins, reveals, changes, consents, exports and erasures, and is kept for 2 years.
  • Request limits on every sign-in step and on uploads.
  • You can download your data, delete any file, withdraw a permission or erase your account at any time; withdrawing the storing of identity or account numbers deletes the stored numbers.

What you control

Profile → Privacy & Security shows what is connected and lets you change your mind at any time.

  • Gmail is optional and read-only (gmail.readonly): FinLens cannot send, delete or change your mail, and you can remove its access at Google's permissions page at any time. Why Gmail is asked for, and what is read.
  • Every permission is a switch: reading your mail, keeping the last 4 digits of your numbers, answering questions with AI, reading a document with AI when the rules cannot. Turning off the storing of identity or account numbers deletes the stored numbers.
  • Your data: download your data as one file, delete any file, or erase your whole account.
  • Your sessions are listed, and you can sign out everywhere.

Who touches your data

FinLens is built and run with the best and latest technology, and everything it stores is encrypted with AES-256. An AI model reads a file the fixed rules cannot read, once, with names and numbers replaced by placeholders. WhatsApp delivers your notices, and Google provides Gmail access only if you connect it. The Privacy Policy names each party that processes your data; nobody else receives it, and other members cannot see it.

Access to FinLens is limited to India.

Keeping and deleting

Sign-in codes1 day; a code itself works for 5 minutes
SessionsUntil they end: 5 days from sign-in, or the moment you sign out
Invitation requests24 hours if never sent; 30 days after an It's Not Me; 180 days once decided
Records of files that could not be read (numbers hidden)180 days
Addresses refused at the door30 days
Audit log2 years
Your records, files, numbers and settingsUntil you delete them or erase your account
The database's own history30 days, encrypted like the database

Deleting a file removes what it imported; erasing your account removes your records, files, stored numbers and sessions, and keeps one audit entry of counts. The policy's retention and your rights sections have the detail.

What FinLens never does

  • Ask for your net banking password, a card PIN or a CVV.
  • Move money, make payments, or buy or sell anything for you.
  • Sell your data, show advertising or share your data with anyone beyond the processors named in the Privacy Policy.

Frequently asked questions

Is FinLens safe to use?

FinLens is built so that your money and your data stay yours. It never asks for your net banking password and cannot move money; everything it stores is encrypted with AES-256, every file included; your accounts and cards are saved with only the last 4 digits of their numbers; you sign in with your PIN and then a one-time code or one tap on WhatsApp; and you can download your data or erase your account at any time. Every control is described on this page.

Can FinLens see my documents?

Files in the Personal Repository are locked in your browser before they leave it, and nobody but you can open them. Other uploaded files are encrypted with your account's key, which the service holds so that it can read them and show them to you; opening a stored file is recorded in the audit log.

Does FinLens store my card number?

Accounts and cards are saved with only the last 4 digits of their numbers, and a CVV is never asked for. A statement you upload is kept as you sent it, encrypted under your account's own key, and opening it asks for your PIN.

Is my data encrypted?

Yes, twice over. Everything we store is encrypted with AES-256, every file is kept encrypted and never as a plain file, and your files, identity numbers and statement passwords are encrypted again under a key of your own account. On the way, every connection is encrypted and the portal seals each request and reply with AES-256 under a key only your browser and the server share.

Can I use FinLens from outside India?

No. FinLens is made for India and access is limited to India: a request from outside the country is refused before it reaches the sign-in, the app or your data. Members travelling abroad wait until they are back.

What happens to my data if I leave?

Erase your account in Profile → Privacy & Security and your records, files, stored numbers and sessions are deleted. One audit entry that holds only counts is kept, and the database's own 30-day history ages out on its own.

How do I report a security problem?

Write to support@finlens.in with what you found and how to reproduce it. Please do not test against other members' accounts or data.
