Ask questions about your money, answered from your own data
Type a question such as how much you spent on food last month. FinLens looks it up in your own data and works out every figure itself; a model reads the question and may add a short note.

Ask FinLens: a question box over your own money
Ask FinLens is a question box in the FinLens web portal. Tap Ask FinLens at the top of any page, or press ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows) and choose it, and a panel opens with the line Answers from your own data. Type a question of up to 300 characters, or tap one of nine suggestions such as How much did I spend on food last month?, Which subscriptions am I paying for? or Where did I travel in the past year?
The answer opens with a sentence written by FinLens from your own figures. A model may add a short note after it, labelled AI note, so you can always tell which words came from your data and which from the model.
Why asking beats searching through pages
A simple question about your money, such as what you spent on food last month or how much loan principal is left, usually means opening a page, setting a filter and adding numbers in your head. General chat assistants can do the arithmetic, but only if you paste your statements into them.
Ask FinLens turns your question into a lookup on data FinLens already holds. The model never handles your statements and never invents a figure.
Who Ask FinLens is useful for
- Members who want a quick answer without learning every page of FinLens.
- Anyone checking a single figure on a phone, where tables are cramped.
- People reviewing a month who want the top expenses or the reason spending rose.
- Anyone planning a large purchase who wants a rough what-if built from their own numbers.

Follow-up questions
Ask a follow-up and FinLens carries the previous question's lookup forward until you tap Clear or reload the page.
How Ask FinLens answers a question
You ask
Open Ask FinLens and type a question, or tap a suggestion. A suggestion carries its own lookup, so no model has to plan it.
Numbers come out first
Before anything leaves FinLens, mobile numbers, e-mail addresses, UPI ids, account, card, folio and demat numbers, PAN and PRAN are replaced with placeholders. A final check refuses to send any message in which one is still found.
A model plans the lookup
An AI model reads the cleaned question and names up to three facts to look up, such as spending by category for last month. It sees no data at this step.
FinLens works out the answer
FinLens runs those lookups on your own records and writes the answer's opening sentence with every figure in it.
The model may add a note
For a single-fact answer, the model may add one to three sentences, marked AI note. A note that carries figures of its own is dropped.
What Ask FinLens needs from you
- Your question, typed or chosen from the suggestions.
- The data already in FinLens: statements, alerts, holdings, reports and trips. Ask FinLens reads nothing else.
- Nothing to switch on: the permission Answer my questions (Ask FinLens) is on from the day your account is made, and you can turn it off in Profile under Privacy & Security.
What the model receives, and what it never does
- It may receive amounts, dates, counts, category names, and the names that go with them: banks, lenders, funds, merchants, the people you pay or are paid by, and your employer.
- When it handles a question, it never receives your mobile number, e-mail address or UPI ids, any account, card, folio or demat number (last four digits included), your PAN or PRAN, or the text of any mail or document.
- Your questions are not stored; FinLens records only which kind of answer was given.
- The conversation lives in your browser tab and is gone when you reload the page or tap Clear.
Limits of Ask FinLens
- Ask FinLens is in the web portal only. WhatsApp sends reminders and notices and does not answer typed questions.
- Up to 30 questions a day reach a model; once they are used, the suggestions still answer from their own lookup. A shared daily limit for the whole service also applies, and one question is answered at a time.
- It answers from your own data, even while you are viewing a family member's pages.
- It answers questions only. It cannot pay, change, delete or reveal anything, and it gives no investment, tax or credit advice.
- It does not answer from your tax returns, and answers are written in English.
- An AI note can be wrong. Check a figure on its page before you act on it.
Questions about ask finlens in FinLens
Does the AI model see my bank statements?
No. The model reads your question, with identifying numbers removed, and plans which facts to look up. FinLens runs the lookup on your data and writes every figure itself. To add a note, the model may see the answer's amounts and names, never your statements, mails or identifying numbers.
Can I ask my questions on WhatsApp?
No. WhatsApp carries approved reminders and notices only. Ask FinLens is in the web portal, at the top of every page.
Are my questions saved?
No. Your questions are not stored; FinLens records only which kind of answer was given. The conversation stays in your browser until you reload the page or tap Clear.
How many questions can I ask?
Up to 30 a day that need the model. The panel shows how many are left today, and the suggestions keep working after that.
Can I turn Ask FinLens off?
Yes. Switch off Answer my questions (Ask FinLens) in Profile under Privacy & Security. The panel then asks for your permission before it answers again.
Will it tell me what to invest in?
No. It describes your own figures and can run a what-if with stated assumptions, but it gives no investment, tax or credit advice. See Insights for the rules FinLens applies to your spending.
